With the first month of Crystal River scallop season coming to an end, we look back at a very active season start and start making preparations for our daily trips to continue in August. The season itself lasts from July 1 through to September 24th in Crystal River – which makes August the middle of the scalloping year.
August Scalloping In Crystal River
The daily scallop harvests have been plentiful, with guests reaching their bag limit (pretty quickly) trip after trip. We expect this trend to continue through August as well. The area’s scallop grounds are healthy and active, with weather and temps on our side.
Finding scallops during August will be similar to the rest of the season. They are generally found over healthy grass beds in daily shallow water. This makes harvesting scallops both easy and fun. Hitting the clear waters of The Nature Coast along Crystal River during these summer months is a great way to cool off while making memories with family and friends.
This is a kid-friendly event as well. We take families with younger members out all of the time. As long as they are comfortable utilizing basic snorkel gear, scalloping is a great way for kids to enjoy the water while harvesting a meal for the family.
September 2021: Scallop Season Wrap Up
September will bring the scallop season to an end, on the 24th. So the clock is ticking to get out on the water for the 2021 scallop season. These trips are filling fast and pre-planning to hire a guide is going to be the best bet. You can see real-time availability here.
